What happens after you reach out

A member of Dr. Earl's staff will contact you, usually within 24 hours on business days, to set up a phone consultation with Dr. Earl. The consultation is complimentary and carries no obligation to schedule anything.

On that call Dr. Earl goes through your symptoms if you have any, your family history, your age and risk factors, and which procedure actually makes sense for you — screening colonoscopy, diagnostic colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, or in some cases nothing at all right now. If scheduling is the right next step, a member of Dr. Earl's staff will contact you to schedule a date and time for your procedure that works best for you.

What to have ready

  • Your symptoms, if any — when they started and whether anything has changed.
  • Family history of colorectal cancer or polyps — who, and roughly what age at diagnosis. This can change when screening should begin.
  • Current medications, particularly blood thinners, which sometimes need adjusting before a procedure.
  • Any prior colonoscopy — approximately when, and whether polyps were found.

None of this is required to make the call. If you do not have it in front of you, we work through it together.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required to schedule with us. If you already have one from a primary care physician, the form can be faxed to us at (913) 399-4778 — but its absence is not a barrier. The consultation is included either way.

A note on insurance

Colonoscopy KC does not participate with insurance plans. Every procedure is self-pay at one all-inclusive price — $1,275 for a colonoscopy, $1,175 for an upper endoscopy, or $2,175 for both in a single visit. Payment is due one week prior to the procedure.

That price covers the consultation, the procedure including polyp removal, anesthesia administered by a CRNA, pathology and lab fees, and the surgery center fee. There is no second bill weeks later. Full detail is on our pricing page.
